AUSTIN, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — An Austin nightclub once known as the heavy metal headquarters of the area will close it’s doors at the end of July after more than 33 years in business.

The Back Room started up in the 1970’s, and served as a stepping stone and touring fixture for many bands including Pantera, Motorhead, The Ramones and Public Enemy.

“There’s a lot of history there, it’s almost a landmark. I think that’s why so many people are expressing their disbelief that it’s shutting down,” Anna Ramirez Sanchez, editor of ExtremeTexasMetal.com told the Daily Texan.

The club plans for its last month of business to be run as a huge party, with an array of big name acts such as Deicide returning for a final farewell. The last two hours of the club’s existence, on July 29th, with be host to an “All-Star Jam Session.”

Anyone who has ever played the club is invited back to perform on stage. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
