YouTube

Some clips from “Barnwood Builders” can be found on YouTube, and videos such as “Log cabin simplicity: recrafting pioneer tiny homes in corn Iowa”, “THE TRUTH… about Log Cabins… and Log Homes” and “Barnwood Builders S08E02 – Hidden History” have been watched thousands of times.

Work

In August 2019, the crew travelled to Waynesboro, Virginia, having found a possible barn to make-over. The owners of the Barn, Debbie Battle and her husband sent a photo of their log cabin to Mark Bowe, which was ultimately turned into a wedding chapel.

“We just love the idea of having a chapel. We thought it would be a great photo op for the brides that are coming, and it’s just something old and preserved like our barn is”, Battle said.

“Barnwood Builders” also visited Emerickville, to save a 1853 barn owned by Norma Shuckers. The farm belonged to the great-grandfather of Don Shuckers, and was used in raising beef cattle. Norma said that she was offered a price for the farm, but her son wouldn’t let her do anything before he reached out to the Barnwood Builders.

The family was contacted by Bowe and his co-workers, and shortly afterwards there was an inspection to check if timbers could be saved. One of the executives of the series, Chiara Hollended, went on to say that the barn was in great condition, considering how old it was.

Other Work

The team also worked in Ohio, where they collaborated with people from West Virginia University. Bowe, awed by their work and compassion, said that he’s proud of those young people, and that they give him hope for the future.

He also thought that it was a good way to give them such an experience that would help them grow.

Another prominent part for the group was teamwork. While they were building, the group ran into some problems that would make their work harder, but they easily fixed it with brainstorming. “I learned that you can’t do everything on your own, and it’s okay to ask for help”, Mark concluded.
